| Estado de Zacatecas | Driving into Zacatecas? Posted: Mon July 26, 2004 09:07 PM UTC
Looking to travel to Zacatecas for Nov. 24-28, 2004, I see that flight schedules directly from Zacatecas Airport require departure very early on Sunday. Therefore, what are other airport options from which I could travel by road into Zacatecas? Leon, Aguascalientes, ... ? What are the travel times via road, and which roads would be most picturesque? (Not traveling at night.)
Thanks in advance, TravelingTex |

I just stayed in Aguascalientes. One day we drove up to Zacatecas and then back the same day. The entire route we took the "AutoPista" (toll highway). It was well maintained. We came back quite late and had no problems. So I assume it was open 24h. If memory serves, it was about a 3h drive each way.
Besides Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi is another major center a few hours away. Robert

I partially answered my own question when I found this very handy link of mileage between Mexican cities. Here it is:
http://www.maps-of-mexico.com/driving-distance-chart.shtml Through that, I learned that Aguascalientes-Zacatecas is 129 kilometers, while Leon-Aguascalientes is about twice as far, 255 kilometers.

Leon is 3 hours...
You can visit real de catorce... The question is: What would you like to do? or.. best.. do you already know the city? to tour the city can take you one day.. you can either decided to get there spend the first day, the second going to the farthest destination according to your schedule.. there here comes.. are you renting a car? or taking the bus? From there you will have your itinerary fixed... Almost every road is very picturesque.. but we don't really have manye scenic stop points... maybe acotamientos once in a while..to stop the car.. anyway the road will be okay, i think still green.. mmm.. aguascalientes also take one day to visit, Leon and aguascalientes are pretty much the same thing, once there you can visit guanajuato and san miguel de allende, then to come back..
