We are visiting Gdansk in Sept before heading to Vilnus and would like to bypass Russia and Belarus.

We've found a train that takes us through Suwalki, but it's quite a long route so we were hoping to do better by bus.

I can't find any information on bus schedules on line, hopefully a kind person can fill me in on how often busses run from Gdansk to Suwalki, how long they take, etc.

As I found - buses are going at 6.40 and 14.00 :)

One more thing - the bus is going around 8 hours :)

Should you want a direct bus from Gdansk to Vilnius, there's one every evening -- it leaves Gdansk main PKS bus station (stand no. 8) at 20-20. It arrives in Vilnius around 08-00. Cost one-way is 125 zloty.
You can buy a ticket downstairs in the bus station from the normal ticket window.

The return bus from Vilnius to Gdansk leaves Vilnius every evening at 22-50, arriving Gdansk around 09-00. Buy tickets from the Eurolines or TOKS offices in Vilnius bus station.

I've done this journey many times (last time was just 3 weeks ago) without any problems at all.

Ben, Does this bus go through Russia, and if so don't you need a travel visa?

No, it doesn't go through Russia, Belarus or Kaliningrad -- it goes directly from Poland to Lithuania -- the same on the return journey.
