I'd love to know - we're considering a move there (my husband's a Winnipeg native). If so, how do you like (or love)it? thanks.

Hi. I actually took the opposite route, I lived in Winnipeg for most of my life and now live in Houston. It really depends on what you intend to do while in Winnipeg. I think it really is a great place to raise a family. By and large it is extremely safe (if you stay away from the downtown areas) and the people are great, land prices are low. It has a world class ballet, and a suprising amount of culture. Personally though I have to say I hate the town. The only reason I'd go back is to visit family.

Born and raised in 'Winterpeg' and although we now live on the west coast, where there is a mild climate, can't beat Winnipeg's giant misquitos and millions of them - down home friendliness of the folk, hot hot summers, and lots of snow - (much like Chicago). Winnipeg boasts a great transportation system, buses, a highway all around the city on the outskirts to avoid congestion and traffic, lovely zoo, parks, great eating restuarants and shopping. Great city to grow up in - as verified by all my relatives still back there. wish you luck in your move...Karla

Used to live and work in the 'Peg years ago and loved it. I hear it's really changed now tho. As per Tanq's reply stay away from living in the downtown area. Apparently there are "gangs" now and the police have a blanket "zero tolerance" with them; o.k. to shop tho most go to the malls. I lived in St. Vital and had no problems whatsoever. The city is now smoke free (meaning no smoking in or near any establishment) and has expanded dramatically. I think your husband will be surprised. Good luck on your endeavours (sp?)!
