Hotel in shopping district!
Posted: Sat July 17, 2004 09:54 PM UTC
Can anyone recommend a hotel located within walking distance from these cool shopping areas... ladies market, stanley market or Lang Kwai Fong district?

I need a hotel that will be right in the heart of these bargain areas.

Any suggestions?

hi tamara,

the ladies market and lang kwai fong are kind of on the opposite ends of the city. but anyway, i think any hotel you stay in hong kong is convenient because of their MTR.

last time i went, i stayed at the Miramar in kowloon which i found kind of central to everything. but if you're looking for something a little bit more luxurious, try the Peninsula. there's lots of options in hong kong, so there's no real one right answer.

i have some info on my HK page... maybe that'll help?

You've picked the most wide spread places possible, tamara. as already indicated, ladies market and Lang Kwai Fong district are no-where near each other and Stanly Maket would take you a day or two to walk to! LOL. Stanley market is in Stanley - on HK island but the other side of the island from the main city. Transport is easy though - grab a bus in the centre (many to chose from) - its quite a stunning journey as it winds along the coastal road through Aberdeen and the coastal resorts befor reaching Stanley.

(I seem to be answering a lot of your shopping questions even though I don;t regard myself as a big shopper :)).

Hong Kong is such a small place that as long as you are staying at a hotel in Hong Kong Island or Kowloon, you can reach anywhere you like basically within 45min of MTR (underground) travel. No problem to move around at all, and transport here (as I live in Hong Kong) is very cheap as compared to anywhere in the world.
No worries.

Hi, Tamara,

As everyone has said, the three places you mentioned are spread out but transportation in HK is very efficient and taxi is relatively cheap. My suggested strategy is to pick a few hotels that suit your price range and post back in the forum for recommendation.

On my recent trip to HK, I stayed at two hotels and both are clean, safe and next to Subway stops : 1. Conrad (near but not in Central-Lan Kwai Fong); expensive; large room and 2. Metropark Hotel (Causeway Bay-Hong Kong Island); cheap; but small room.

Final tip: you may want to find a travel agency in local Chinatown where they can often get you the cheapest rates for both airline and hotel (more so than any website).

Enjoy your visit to HK,

Ken
