Posted: Fri July 16, 2004 01:21 PM UTC
Hi, we are going for a week to Kuredu in a Beach Villa in 4 weeks time. However I am petrified of bats, spiders etc...does anyone know whether there are lots of spiders or bats on Kuredu? Also I have heard recently that in tropical places that stingray and Weaver fish (sp??) are dangerous - does anyone know if there is anything like this to be aware of in Kuredu??

Thanks!!!!

Spider are present as they where on Lohifushi, so are some other creature's. But they are all members of the food chain and ecology of the islands. No poisonous thingies can be found on the island, in the water there are some, but please inform at the location self!
Also few mosquitos but mainly in dusk they are active, so avoid then mangrove patches on the island if there are any!
I can't recall any sightings of bats!

Hi

I am going to Kuredu in April 2005, would you please tell me what the island is like after you have visited. My hubby and I are also staying in a beach villa.

We have been to Meeru, absolute PARADISE. This was ourfirst visit to the Maldives, we are now completely hooked, and have managed to get a great deal on a late booking to Lohifushi island on the 29/08/04 (5 weeks to go).

Kuredu is by all accounts very similar to Meeru, so no worries on the spider front there, never saw one. As far as the bats don't worry. They are fruit bats and were high up in the palm trees after the fruit and occassionally flew about above the tree line in the day. Didn't see them on a night, but then again after a few fantastic but lethal cocktails I didn't see very much at all.
Yes there are stingrays, and a few fish to avoid if you see them, don't going running into the sea without watching where you walk, the rays will soon move away once they detect movement. Tip: you can buy aqua shoes from Cotton traders (also online) for approx £6, to wear in the water, especially good if a lot of dead coral around.
Well I was so taken back with the fantastic sealife, I managed to overcome my panic attacks and fear of putting my head underwater, I snorkled everyday as i didn't want to miss out, it was enough to make anyone overcome their fear, even went out 2 miles or so by boat to the house reef, amazing.
Don't worry about a thing, because i can assure you I certainly did beforehand, once you get there you will completely forget about the bats etc. you'll be preoccupied with the wonderful warm blue indian ocean and the whiter than white coral sand. Tip: Make sure you take dark sunglasses, and watch out for the coconuts, most accidents are caused by the falling coconuts!
Happy holidays, please let me know what Kuredu is like.
H.

Yes there are bats at kuredu , but they are only fruit bats and they are really cute like puppy dogs with wings- nothing to be afraid of, didnt see any spiders (thank god, i hate spiders also), plenty of mosis and sandflys so take insect repellant. Yes there are sting rays , scorpion fish etc but if you wear aqua shoes and shuffle your feet when walking in the water they will see you coming and swim away, trust me as soon as you don your snorkel and mask you will be hoping to see them, the underwater world is just fascinating!, there is nothing to be frightened of- you are in far greater danger from sunburn! (so dont forget to take lots of sunscreen)
