| Varazdin | Croatia-- Zagorje or Zadar? Posted: Wed July 14, 2004 04:34 PM UTC
Sorry for the double posting--I thought the original was to the Croatia forum but it was only in Europe.
For our trip to Croatia in late Sept., we are staying 2 nights (1-1/2) days in Zagreb, 1 in Plitvicki, 2 at Trogir (including Split and Primosten), 2 on Hvar and 5 in the Dubrovnik area (going to Montenegro for 2 of the days if we can find a rental car we can take there). We have one more day. Should we stay one more night in Zagreb and take a daytrip to the Zagorje area (some combination of Varazdin, Trakoscan, Veliki Tabor, etc.) or instead go to central Dalmatia and visit Zadar, Sibenik or some other location? Whichever you suggest, what should we see there? Any other comments or suggestions? |

I vote for Sibenik, with its lovely cathedral, and the nearby Krka National Park.

You should stay one more night in Zagreb and visit casttles in Zagorje. You have enough time for Dalmatia.

I vote for Zagorje area...even though I'm from Dalmatia :-) You will be in Dalamtia for 9 days, and you will see enough places, so I think you should go to other part of Croatia and see how it looks like...it is completely different from the south.
Varazdin is nice baroque city...Trakoscan castle with its lake is very beautiful....Veliki Tabor is also nice, but that can be the third choice. So, Varazdin+Trakoscan, I would suggest.

If possible include Kumrovec in your Zagorje itinerary as well.
