I did this trek with a sherpaguide four years ago (this is a hard but fantastic trip) and will answer any question that i can. some quick tips: Don't do it in the monsunseason, it is stil beautifull, but the mountains will be invisible mutch of the time and you are bound to get wet.
Allow good time to adjust to the atitude. To begin with thee altitude will make you weak, but it improves soon.

Bring waterpurification, for example iodine. There is lot of water everywhere but it needs treatment.

It is a good idea to bring a set of pictures from home, locals love it.

It is possible to do the trek on your own, but without a guide it can sometimes be difficult to find the way as the right trail not always are ther obvious one. You should never walk it totally alone.

Everest Base camp trek is one very wonderful trek available in Nepal full of romance and ting as you are closer the highest mountain in the World as well as the Sherpa himalayan culture and tradition.
As as local experience trekking profession we suggest you that though it is not so hard still you need to do some sort of preparation and some precurtion should be takes to avoid the life threating Acute Mountain Sickness . 1. What is the best/better base camp to visit?
--I want to go as high up the mountain as possible without getting hit with thousands of US dollars in Mount Everest royalty fees.
--How high (altitude) can I go.
--Do groups go that high?
--How far past the base camp can I hike?
--To what altitude and distance past the base camps can I hike?

2. What are the altitudes of the base camps?
--How many base camps are there?
--I know of North and South base camps and there is an Advanced Base Camp in one of the internet ads, higher than the South base camp.--Are these the only ones?

3. What is the best direction to come from to get to Everest?
--China, India, Nepal, Tibet, etc.?

4. I see a lot of information on the internet about group tours, but not a lot of details on how to make the entire trip, such as:
--How to get to the start point of the group tour, e.g., Kathmandu, etc.
--Overall cost of equipment needed and where to get it. One internet ad said you can rent equipment after you arrive, and another ad said that you need to bring your equipment with you from home, that there's nothing available after you arrive at the group start point.
--So, is there a site we can go to to get answers to all of the many questions we have?
--Has someone thought through the needs of people who would like to go to Everest, but can't get the information they can trust on the internet sites?
