How late can you take a speed boat from ban phe to ko samet? My friend and I are leaving friday afternoon after 5, and were hoping to get a boat over to samet at night. Should we just stay on the mainland instead?

Boat schedule depends on which area of Kho Samet you intend to go. I think there's a boat that leaves Nuanthip Pier in Ban Phe at around 5:30 pm and that would be going to Au Voungdean in Kho Samet. Most of the other areas have last trips at around 4-5pm.

Once,my friends and I had a spontaneous trip to Kho Samet and we reached the Bann Phe pier at 11 pm.
We found out that there were still some boats avaliable to take us to Kho Samet, only that we had to pay them extra.

The fact is that each boat has a maximum pay, meaning that they have to get, at least, at their max to take you to the island and come back to the mainland empty.

It is more like renting a private boat. (Of course, sometimes you have to pay extra if you do things that are out of schedule.)

Any way, a captain told us that he has to get 1200 B- max, and there were four of us, so that each of us has to pay him 300 B-,well, we decided to wait for a while ,and ,there ,they come, five more people got off the last bus of the day and wanted to accompany us. It was end-up with 130 B- for each people. We got the island at 12 pm.

It's just another alterative way you might need to know if you want to go with a spontaneous plan.
