Arnhem 60th Anniversary
Posted: Wed July 7, 2004 10:29 PM UTC
I intend to go to Arnhem for the 60th anniversary. I am ex Parachute Regiment and my son is a pilot on the Hercules that will be making drops on the day. Can anyone give me information where to stay in Arnhem for 4 to 5 days. I intend to fly to Amsterdam and maybe get a train or bus. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Arnhem is a very nice place. Love it. I stayed at the Bilderberg Hotel De Buunderkamp and the environment was great.

Check out the Kroller Muller Museum and the forest there too.

Have fun.

There was a simular question a month ago and at that time all hotels within a 15 km radius of Arnhem were fully booked in that period. I'll get back tonight to do some searching for any vacancy.

Hello John,

Indeed September is starting to become a very full month in Arnhem and surroundings, due to the commemorations that take place for the 60st time. Anyway, a list of hotels you can find on my hometown / Arnhem page, but there is more. Few good places are the Stay-Okay, but this could already be booked solid as it is rather popular. Large hotels (read also "expensive") are the "Haarhuis", the "NH Rijnhotel" and the de "Bilderberg" (in Oosterbeek). Little further away one can find the "Branding" (in Doorwerth). Cheaper and within the centre are the "24-7 Dutch hotel" and hotel "Parkzicht". Also a good plac to stay is the B&B "Immerloo" and the B&B I have placed under my "Driel" page.

Hope you'll find a good place to stay and if further questions would appear, feel free to contact me through mail or this forum.

Greets,

Paul

Hi John,

You may also try Rhederoord in De Steeg, about 10 km from Arnhem, www.rhederoord.nl. It's a B&B now, but it used to be an international school and even featured in "A bridge too far". The website is in Dutch, but you can inquire in English.

Good luck! P.

I am flying from Stansted to Eindhoven very reasonable via ryanair and quite close to the action.

Car hire seems reasonable and can be collected / delivered to the airport, however we are a party of 6 and will tour the sites over a 4 day vacation.

Im Ex 144PFA (TA) and am looking forward to seeing the drop although I reached my 60th this year Im up for it if your son can pull any strings.
