| Chongqing | After the 3 gorges boat trip - trains/buses out of Yichang Posted: Wed July 7, 2004 12:18 PM UTC
Hi,
We're planning to do the 3 gorges boat trip towards the end of July. Our timing is pretty tight and we are hoping to catch a train out of Yichang the day out boat trip finishes. I am going to Guangzhou and my friends are going to Shanghai. Does anyone know if train tickets are readily available - particularly sleepers as these are long train journeys. If not, does anyone know a way of booking rail tickets in advance from another city, say Kunming or Guilin? Thanks for your help! |

Yes, you can book Yichang-Guangzhou tickets since there're two trains starts from Yichang. But since no train starts from Yichang to Shanghai, you may have to buy Wuchang-Shanghai tickets or other alternatives.
Remember, you can only buy those tickets where the trains starts from the same station in a third city. How many days in advance you can book the tickets at the 3rd city depends on local stipulations. For example, in Shanghai, we can book a Yichang-Guangzhou ticket in 12 days advance; but in a smaller city, such as Guilin or Kunming, it might be only, say, 6 or 8 days. You have to ask the ticket office about this.
