| Goiânia | Places to see and places to eat in Goiania Posted: Sun July 4, 2004 04:33 AM UTC
I am going to Goiania in a week.
It is very difficult to find anything on the internet about the city (in English) and I have found nothing about what to see and where to eat. Recommendations are highly appreciated. I am really looking forward to this trip. Also, I will be playing a round of golf in Brasilia. Do anyone know of any other golfcourses within a couple of hours drive from Goiania? Regards, Svein |

I think I should have elaborated a little more on what I am missing.
Yes, I have the book too. But do not think it is even close to tell me enough about a city that is a lot larger than the capital of the country I am living in (Norway). What I am looking for is personal recommendations. I do have local contacts, but in a city that is as big as this, nobody has the full knowledge. That is why a website like this is so beautiful. I will of course let you know about good places that find during my trip. I am leaving Oslo today and will be in Brazil tomorrow.

There is a problem on the Virtual Tourist site. There is a Goiania that is in Pernambuco, a beach State, and a Goiania in the interior of the country near Brasilia.
The interior Goiania is a big city, called the Dallas of Brazil due to it strong ties to agriculture and cattle. It's a safe, clean city. Not 3rd world, but neither 1st. That is to say, you little English spoken, but has a modern infrastruture. There are few foreigners here, which makes it interesting for "outsiders". You will be will received. The primary problem for a tourist is the lack of any "tourist sites". There are none. However, if you want to see a typcial big city in the interior of Brazil, then you will find Goiania an interesting destination. The beers is cold, the bars are full and it is cheap for "people from outside". If you hit the right spot and make contact with some of the English speaking young folks, you will have a very good time.
