Hey all,
Looks like we're going to have to stay in Ancona for the night on our way over to Split and Korcula. Anyone have tips on hotels near the port? As cheap as possible, please. Thanks! |

I arrived in Split by bus and was met by several ladies selling rooms. One was aggressive and another not as much. As I later found out, they were sisters selling the same room, but never let on until we agreed to stay there. The prices aren't too high, and they are quite nice. If I can find their name or number tonight, I'll post.

That's really funny - I like that story. Salesmanship baby.
Did you stay in Ancona at all? We need to stay there for a night. I nixed Hvar b/c it's so touristy and yacht-y. We're more quiet, bike-riding-to-the-beach types. Am I making a mistake? Should I reinstate Hvar town?

Hotel fortuna is just in front of the railway station and not far from the harbour, try to check it out: www.hotelfortuna.it

I sent you an e-mail to your VT account detailing my thoughts, probably too long for the is forum. In short, I found Startigrad to be quite nice and quiet, but beware of the bus situation, as sometimes it's just overcrowded and when there's not a seat, TOUGH! I camped jsut outside of town and found a beach that was about a 5-6 km hike from town that was rocky, but with water so clear, that I was frightened to dive in...
