My husband and two teenage sons are going to hawaii in april for the first time and are staying (1 week) at a hilton property. Which do yu recommend?
Waikola Beach Resort on Big Island or
Hilton Hawaiian Village, Oahu or
The Kalia Tower (also at Hilton Hawaiian Village I believe)
Thanks for your advice.

Either Waikoloa if you want a quiet resort life and the Kalia tower if you want the everything but the kichen sink trip

Depends on whether you want to be in the middle of everything (Waikiki and Hilton Hawaiian Village) or off to yourself at a slower pace (Waikaloa Beach). Check out my Hawaii pages. I have stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and at the Marriott Waikaloa, which is next door to the Hilton property on the Big Island. Both are nice properties, so it just depends on the activities you want to do.

Aloha. Teenage boys would want to be in Waikiki. The Hilton Hawaiian Village, and unless you desire full upscale the tower is not necessary, but the Rainbow tower instead, gives you a great view. Ask for a high floor room facing Diamond head for the best view, or a corner room has two balconies for the full ocean front as well, which includes sunset. to the right. The WaiLei Boat Harbor is on the one side for the view and sunset, but no Diamond Head. Back to the boys, my 2 sons are 3 years apart, and we stayed in the Rainbow towers and the center court suites at Hilton Hawaiian Village 4 different times. They loved it. And we have been to the Big Island Hilton , because of the tram and river boat shopping"Disneyland". as many of us call it as well. But you can get tired of not much else to do for teenagers but the great pool. Ok , back to Oahu, Activities for teenage boys, Girl watching, fast food , surfing, Pearl Harbor tour, canoeing, girl watching, snorkeling at Haunauma Bay, fast food, body boarding at Sandy Beach, girl watching, Sea Life Park, windsurfing at Kailau, fast food, and in april watching the big time surfers on the North Shore at Pipeline, in Haleiwa, Matsumoto's Shave Ice with ice cream and azuki beans for the boys and Jameson Restaurant at sunset for everyone , and last but not least, girl watching.

Defintaley stay in Oahu.

I've been to every island including Molokai, and Oahu is definately more fun more to do and is not over built. You can drive 15 mins North of Hanuma Bay and be in a secluded beautiful beach. Or go on Waikiki Beach. Go out ot dinner at teh numerous restruants. Go to the new waterpark, go to the sealife park, go to Hanuma bay, go shopping, walk around the city, go to the flea market, go to diamond head, theres many many things to do.

You will find ont eh other islands you will be spending about 70% of your time in the hotel grounds, eating at their restraunts, renting their stuff, going to their beach etc.

Hilton Hawaiian Village ,a wonderful place ,the rainbow Tower was the best located Tower with a fantastic view of Diamond head ( if you are in the higher room facing Diamond head)there are 5 towers in the Village not all of them were near the beach ,get a good look at the Villages out lay make sure you pick the right tower.
This place is beautiful expensive but well worth the money in my opinion.
Lots to do for teenage boys as has been mentioned . I would go back there tomorrow if I could .
Well enjoy your stay in Hawaii.

Springbreak, I think your answers... .well lets just say that, in my opinion O'ahu is way overbuilt and that there are many things to do on all the Islands, the beauty being that the things can be different on each Island, even though all are Hawai'i. Kaua'i, the oldest Island is still a paradise. The Napali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Wailua River, and Hanalei Bay are only Kaua'i.
Hawai'i, the Big Island, the volcano Island, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea with the active Kilauea at the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, major deep sea fishing at Kailua-Kona, and citified Hilo, with the waterfalls. Mau'i, No Ke 'Oi, (the best). Majestic Haleakala, with the moonscape volcano crater and the silversword plant, that blooms once and dies. The road to Hana and beyond with waterfalls, bamboo forests, and splendid beaches. Lahaina, a former whaling port and many artifacts of old Hawai'i. Golf till you drop, at world class courses. Moloka'i,the world left behind, no building taller than the tallest coconut tree. No traffic, and no traffic signals, but hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding, with the mule ride tour to the village of Kalaupapa, and Father Damien' love from 1873-1889, the Hansen's Disease compound. Even Lana'i, with upcountry Lodge at Koele and ocean side Manele Bay Hotel have the gardenof the god's in Kanepu'u. Plenty to do and see on all the Islands, and the beauty is they are all different, but all Hawai'i. Aloha oe

oahu and the big island offer very different experiences. you should decide which island you want to go to, rather than which hotel.

Thanks so much to all for the info. Based on your opinions and ideas for things to do, we will go with Oahu since it's our first trip to Hawaii and there's more diversity for the boys. They are pretty different from each other and so are their interests. .. I'll check back on the forum as we get closer to the trip for more helpful hints, especially restaurants! If we ever go back again (without the kids), I think my husband and I will choose one of the smaller, prettier less developed spots. We've been to the Caribbean a few times and that's what we like there.
Anyway, thanks again for your help.
