Hostal Los Uros Puno Peru
Posted: Tue June 22, 2004 07:21 PM UTC
I stumbled across "Hostal Los Uros Puno Peru" (http://www.losuros.com) on the internet and find that their prices are really low for tours. For example, a 2 day 1 night homestay for $12USD/person, including food, evening party etc .. Is this for real? Does anyone know about this hostal - are they good, safe / reliable?

Looks like it's about the average price for visiting the islands on the Titicaca lake (taquile and amantani). But, careful : the evening party on the island is a typical one (that lasts until 10 PM, no more !) and the food is really basic. I would recommend to visit the islands from the bolivian shore of the lake (Islas del Sol y de la Luna that you may visit from the cityt called Copacabana) : it's cheaper and maybe a little more genuine...

As for the hotel itself, I've heard about it but don't know if it's a cheap one or not...

That is the correct price for a tour. If you go without a tour you can possibly do it even cheaper and the locals on the island benefit from your tourism more.

I am staying at the Hostal Uros now. Am paying almost $5 a night which is average. There are surely much cheaper options in Puno. It is nice, just an average hotel. Nothing to write home about, but also nothing to be dissappointed in.
