I might be going to Bryansk this September with my work. I've searched for anything on Bryansk here on VT, but only found a posting about someone crossing Russia on a motorbike.

There is site http://www.bryansk.org, in Russian, unfortunately. But we can look up at it for you, just tell what questions you have. Bryansk is sadly known as a Chernobil polluted area. So..there is a believe that alcohol and wine helps in this case or there should be other preventive medication also.

Thanks for the webpage.

My question is really about what there is to see here (sights, history etc).

I know the area is known to be polluted with radioactivity. That is the reason why we might be going there. Ï'm working with enviromental radiology.

The best thing you can do is to prevent radioactive materilas into the body. The material we are most concerned about now is Cs-137. It has a half life of about 30 years, and is taken up by plants and especially mushrooms. The plants are again eaten by cows etc.

You should know that the radioactivity is higher in the area, but that it is far from any catastrophic level.

We are going to put dosimeters on the local population to measure the dosis they get.
