San Gimignano Transportation from Rome to San Gimignano
Posted: Tue June 22, 2004 01:32 AM UTC
We will be arriving in Rome and need to travel to San Gimignano by some sort of public or private transportation with a fair amount of luggage. We have a car available to us when we arrive in San Gimignano so we don't want to rent a car just to get there from Rome. What are the best alternatives?

San Gimignano is served by bus from Florence. It's not a very long trip. What's a fair amount of luggage?
I suggest taking the train from Rome to Florence---an easy enough trip--- and then dragging yourself and all that luggage the block to the bus terminal. It's literally right around the corner.
I don't have a timetable but a quick Google search should reveal all.
Enjoy Tuscany. How could you not?

You can do even better than that. SENA (http://www.sena.it/index_e.htm) runs a direct coach connection from Rome (Tiburtina station) to Poggibonsi. From there it's less than 10 km to San Gimignano, so you can have your car pick you up there or take a taxi or another bus.
The buses are excellent, with toilet, aircon and so on. There's no need to change so I guess that's the best option if you have a lot of luggage.
Cheers,
mac
