Accomodations in Lisbon

I will be travelling to Lisbon and Madrid in August and I was wondering if anyone could advise me on inexpensive (yet decent) accomodations for either.

I tried checking on the net but there are so many I don't know even know where to begin!

Hi there,

Look in my Portugal page, and I mention Residencia Nova Avenida.. I have all the details there. Its cheap, clean, and in a good safe, and central location.
I´ve also heard Pensao Globus is good, but I´ve never been able to get a room there, its always full.
I´ve also stayed at the Londres... I got a little creeped out by some of the goings on in other rooms.. rather loud, but an nice old building.

I have stayed at the Pensio Ninho das Aquias and it was brilliant, the rates were very low and it has a superb location on the hill up to the castle.

By the way, the same website has a Madrid section. (I've used it for Barcelona, Paris and Lisbon and each time the hotel I found was great.)
