Kiruna Where to stay
Posted: Sat June 19, 2004 06:23 PM UTC
Hi ,

We are a couple and we will be driving into Kiruna from Tromso on 23rd August 2004. We intend to staqy only one night before driving on to Rovaniemi. What would be a reasonable place to stay - we want to spend about 600 SEK for the night.
Also what can we see and do in this one day. What will the weather and temperatures be at that time ?

Hi there!!

You can choose from:

youth hostel: 0046-980-84142
they charge 360 sek for a double-room plus extra sheet-rental, breakfast, towels Etc Book between 07-12 or 17-20

Flat: 2 beds 500 sek 0046-(0)980-10937 OBS fully equipped!!!!

Hotel : Hotel kebene, seems to have good prices surf in (www.hotelkebene.com) they have english section!!

Jarnvagshotellet, 595 sek for a double-room (www.jarnvagshotellet.com) have English section

I think you should expect good weather With a lot of sun as it hardly goes down but in scandinavia it cant be guaranteed but anyway its about the best time to go

temp should be 18-25 degrees daytime

Have a nice stay, its beautiful up there....

Niklas

Please find some info at these two sites:
http://kiruna.se/
and
Kiruna official Tourist Information http://www.lappland.se
In Kiruna the famous wooden church is an absolute must. It was chosen the most beautiful building in Sweden all times.
Another thing to see are the mines, look in the tourist info if they allowe visiting them.
If you had more time I would have recommended you to stay one night in the small Nikkaluokta village (60 km from Kiruna centre). There is a camping ground and also some huts to hire. The restaurant is of high class. Also souvenir shop. From there you can make excursions by foot. (The road ends up there). The panorama is very beautiful, and it is an easy walking as you like.
As had been said, the weather will be good. And no mosquitos at that time of the year.

Yes, the mines are World Heritage listed. Anyone older than six years is allowed to visit them. Read more here:

Thanks for your tips. I managed to book a room at the Jarnvagshotellet which you suggested.

As Håkan has pointed out to me, the mines are not yet World Heritage - only suggested if I remember correctly. Still worth seeing though!
