Are there many ways of travelling from Puno to La Paz? Is this something that should be organzied in advance or is this something that I would be able to organized upon arrival? Also, how much does it cost to travel thie route (on average)?

Thanks

The main way is to take a bus south to the Bolivian boarder then from Copocobana a bus to La Paz. You could show up at the bus stop in Puno in the morning and be in La Paz the same day. Very easy.

Although when I went through the farmers had blocked the road for three days and I had to take a small boat accross the Lake 8hours (usually 1.5hr by road) but that should not happen very often. Just goes to show that in South America nothing can be relyed on but you will always get there in the end.

My advise is book as little in advance as you can.

I believe there is a train that goes that route. I took the bus and there are many to choose from. I took the bus from La Paz to Cusco and can't remember how much it cost exactly. I think it was something like 10 to 20 dollars US. Pretty good for more than a 12 hour bus ride. Most transportation in SA is quite cheap.....oh ya, if you are going to visit Lake Titicaca, i would recommend you go to Copacabana in Bolivia instead of Puno. It is a lot nicer and I have heard a lot of bad things about Puno (it didn't look that nice when I passed by either)

Let me know if you have more questions
