Re: Morelia/Patzcuaro -- Dia de los Muertos Posted: Tue June 15, 2004 09:39 AM UTC
We stayed at the De la Soledad in Morelia. This is a colonial style 4* place with the expected quality and authenticity at perhaps lower than expected price. I recall it to have been about 600 pesos per night for a double. They have a web site. They had a great Sunday buffet lunch which I enjoyed on this and a previous visit. This is a higher class place than I usually stay at, but it was a special trip for friends. Santa Clara del Cobre has 3 hotels. The best is El Camino Real. 3*. This is not one of the high class Camino Real Chain, but it looked clean with modern rooms. The only thing which was strange was that it looked fairly empty when I stopped by. I would not recommend the hotel we stayed at because our room was dark, small and over priced even at about 20 dollars a night. The other small hotel on the plaza, the Oasis looked better but I never entered it. It was fully booked when I called. Circumstances kind of forced us to stay at Santa Clara, but for us the result was great., I recall it being 30-40 minutes by taxi or bus from Patzcuaro. The town is prosperous because of the copper trade, but still with the feel of a small Mexican town. I recall particularly enjoying siting in the plaza while my wife took her siestas. bob
