JohnB- In case you haven't checked my earlier Grenada forum message,
Here is a clip from a recent TripAdvisor review: "La Sagesse is a fantastic, affordable retreat on Grenada, and as my girlfriend Nancy and I discovered on our recent romantic holiday there, a perfect place to escape the stresses of everyday life. The beachfront rooms are nicely decorated and local art hangs from the walls. There are no TV's or phones to interrupt the sounds of the the waves, just 30 feet or so outside your windows. The staff is incredibly friendly, which we treasure while on vacation." The whole review is at http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g147295 if you are interested. It sounds like you would like it.

Spice Island resort is in the tourist area however La Sagesse is more remote and further away from the capital. How close do you want to be to the 'action'?
As for the beaches both are fine however I prefer Spice Island's.

Post Ivan, La Sagesse is back up and running. Spice Island Resort on Grand Anse will be closed for a year.
