| Caye Caulker | Caye Caulker rentals? Posted: Fri June 11, 2004 12:26 PM UTC
I plan to take a trip to Caye Caulker this September.
I'm looking for a hotel or rental that offers a private bungalow or house. Does anyone have suggestions as to what part of the island is best? Or perhaps a specific recommendation for lodging? Thank you! Jennifer |

caye caulker is only about 2 miles long and less that half a mile wide so the choices are limited.
i think a private bungalow will be hard to come by there. the place is a real paradise though. san pedro will offer you more chances for renting a private house, but the place is not as charming as caye caulker. still nice though.

Thank you!
I'm pretty sure I want to stay on Caye Caulker. As far as "bungalo" us concerned, it's not as important as just having a quiet , private place. Thanks for the advice!

just for your information:
the southern part of the island is a little upscale while the northern part is mostly backpackers.

I haven't been there for a few years, because I prefer Placencia, so I can't give you current info. However, I rented a house on two different occasions. One was for a few days and the other was for a week
I suggest that you NOT make any reservations and just show up. Ask around when you get there. There should be plenty of vacancies in hotels, so you should easily get a room somewhere if you need to. I think the name of one of the people who rents houses is Heredia, but I am not sure I remember it well. Having access to a kitchen is great, because you don't have to go out to eat if you don't want to. The only place where you would want to swim is at the Split, so closer is better than a further daily trudge.
