Mainz RHINE CRUISING
Posted: Wed June 9, 2004 03:07 PM UTC
Hi all,

I´m heading off to Mainz (10th) tomorrow - but only have 24 hours.
I´ve decided to do a cruise on the Rhine - but:
- where do I book the trip?
- How much is it suppose to cost aprox?
- and what is up and down stream?

Any advice is appriciated....

Everything interesting is downstream, between Mainz and Koblenz. I am not sure where you book it and how long does it cost, but in case you do not find out just take a train to Koblenz (eventually to Bonn and Cologne) and sit on the right-hand window.

Take the train to Boppard and go from Boppard to Koblenz by boat, go back by train to Mainz. As far as I know, you book it in a small hut near the ship.

And after your ride you go to the Heilig Geist in Mainz to rest for a tea, wine, food.

See my homepage with the only picture of it.

Yep, KD is the most expensive line but perfectly affordable and with several departures. We just bought tickets in the kiosk by the quay in Boppard to where we planned to go which is the lovely little town of Bacharach.

boppard does have a web site in english . see if you can find a link to it here. the area that you wish to see is called the middle rhine i believe.
you might try a google search for middle rhine river cruise company.
if you are young and adventuress there use to be a bike path that ran along the ridges that are high above the river on the boppard side . it ran from kolbenz pass boppard to another town on the river.. boppard was about half way from either end of the trail,
also there was a little paved road that runs along the ridges. the views from places along the road and bike path i liked better than the view from a boat on the river.
be sure and take some bottled water with you for the boat trip in the summer time.
also some sun screen comes in handy on some of the large ships that are mainly for the middle rhine tours . there is very little shade any where on these ships..
