Hi there,
I wondered how easy it is to travel from Alice springs to Darwin? By bus? is the Ghan running from Alice springs ot Darwin yet. Of course, I want to see stop off on the way to see Katherine, for example... As I am a complete australia novice, it would be great to hear your opinons on that! Em |

It would be a great trip to do. You probably have to book well ahead. I read recently from someone "going down" : the train is about one kilometer long and entraining at Darwin they have a ferry bus which runs you to your carriage and compartment ! They suggest taking a cardigan on board as the air-conditioning is very efficient. Good one. It would stop at Katherine for look-see. Good luck Em.....L. ( For me, as a motoring adventure tourist, it has taken something away from touring that part of our country.)

There are some good linking tours from Alice to Darwin stopping at Katherine Gorge along the way.
www.ozmagic13.homestead.com the Ghan is up and running but is proving expensive although I believe you can stop a Katherine Gorge. Good luck.

I just got back home (darwin) from driving down to Alice Uluru and back. You cant beat driving it and stopping off to have a look at all the site, The Devils Marbles, Katherine, Mataranka Hot Springs, Daly Waters pub.
Maybe you could look at hiring a car or camper one way. From what i understand the train can be quite expensive. Good luck
