Grand Canyon National Park South Rim Route
Posted: Fri June 4, 2004 04:14 PM UTC
We are traveling June 10 to Flagstaff and would like to take Hwy. 180 to 64 to the South Rim and then Hwy.89 back to Flagstaff. I would like to know about how long of a trip is it with traffic etc. and is there a cost to drive through? Any other suggestions to get the most out of our trip would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jane and Brenda

Other suggestion: Once you are in Flagstaff, the road from there to Sedona is a must see. Although it does not have the grandeur of the Grand Canyon, it is a gorgeous drive.

Hi Jane & Brenda :-)
Have a great trip to GC. entry for car is approximately 20 bucks. Drive there from Phoenix takes around 5 hours, though it's spectacular. You should NOT miss, as pointed out kindly above, Sedona, Monument Valley, or any of the scenery in general. It's ALL spectacular. Flagstaff I found is very expensive, compared to inner city stores, so purchase anything that you may need b4 going up there. Having been on 3 occasions to the GC - during Summer and Winter months, we had to come back down (Summer) as there was freak snow storms and absolutely freezing, so take sweater, trousers etc., as it does get VERY cold at night. Take plenty of pics and share them with us.

Wishing you both luck and great journeys.

It costs $20 per car to enter Grand Canyon national Park. This $20 permit lasts for 7 days, so that you can drive in and out of the park within a 7 day time limit at no additional cost. The cost covers all passengers inside the car. Be sure to stop at the look outs and enjoy the views. Have fun.
