| Judetul Suceava | from bucuresti to vatra dornei Posted: Thu June 3, 2004 03:15 PM UTC
hii knowledgeable people :)
we plan to go to vatra dornei, for about a week in august. we = 3 adults and one 18 months baby . first night , and last upon return from vatra dornei, will be in bucuresti . here are the questions: 1. can some one recommend a non expensive good hotel with facilities for baby, ( about 3 stars and /or less than 50$ per person per night ) ? 2. what is the distance to vatra dornei ? which day ! train is best to take, R ? A ? , how many hours will it take ? and cost of a ticket in first class compartment ? i guess it has to be via suceava, am i right ? (not enough , and not clear, info on CFR site) 3. can someone recommend a hotel without spa in vatra dornei ? ( 5-7 nights, rooms with bath ) the hotels i found on the internet are only for spa treatments, therefore expensive. will appreciate to receive advice thanks , feli_x |

Hi,
I think you will be best getting the sleeping car if arriving p.m from bucharest to vatra. This costs aprox £12. gbp per adult and is first class and of good service if you arrive in the morning at bucharest you should have no problems buying your first class seats to vatra from the ticket office for aprox the same price. There is normally english speakers in bucharest if not just write it down for them, they are very accomodating people. I cannot recommend any accomodation sorry. I have however just travelled north romania alone and when I got to cluj and required accomodation I entrusted a taxi driver to drive me from station to decent hotels and stay with me until my room was booked. He spoke reasonable english lIke most taxi drivers and only charged me 10 euro for the drive and guide service. If you chose this method I reccomend you only approach a taxi with the sign on the roof not just any car and also discuss payment before getting in. Alot will approach you but many are very decent and helpful people. I would approach the car rather than being poached in the station. On meeting other people on my travels it turned out that I saved £200 gbp by travelling this way as they had been ripped off by pre booking trains and accomodation. What ever you decide on I hope you have a good holiday. Romania is a beautiful place and so are its people. Regards Sally.

In addition to what it was answered, I can also recommend renting a car - you have much more flexibility. Renting cars in Romania is cheap - around 30- 40 euro/day.
By the way, if you stop in Suceava, a good place to stay is Leaganul Bucovinei B&B (www.leaganulbucovinei.com). good luck
