Posted: Fri May 28, 2004 04:02 PM UTC
Hi, again...

Have anyone ever send stuff via mail from Vietnam? I am intend to send clothes by mail but have no slightest clue how much does it costs. The packet might weight only 3-4 kilos or so.
Can someone gave me any info or a hint where to find answers?

I really appreciate your help!

Hi there kimmo_v

J_P_B and I have sent two packages a month ago to the UK from Vietnam and both have arrived no bother. I think a rough estimate was 500g USD$15 then $5 per additional 500g. That is for sending a parcel by Air (takes 2-3 weeks although our arrived in 1 week). There are sometime special offers with certain package sizes so you need to check this out at the post office. To send stuff by Sea is alot cheaper but takes 2-3 months.

One suggestion is not to pack everything before you get to the post office as they insist on seeing all its contents before sending and you could spend time unpacking all your stuff! They usually have boxes and packing tape avaiable at the post office.

Cheers
Georgie

Me again ...just found the Vietnam Post Office web site, scroll to the bottom and click on English and then Click on "products and services", then "Postal & Newspaper Distribution Services and Rates" There is a table with the postal rates.

Hey,

I shipped by sea to england last week. i sent 14kg which cost about 24 english pounds and its suppose to take 2-3 months. I was worried about it not getting there but the post office were very efficient which made me feel more conifedent. Like one of the other replies said don't pack anything as they go through it all and count everything. They supply the box and tape. One thing is that they woun't send CDs as they say they don't have a coustoms.

thats about 42 usd i think!!! Not bad for 14kg of stuff. the more you send the cheaper it is as the first kg is the most and there after each kg is quite cheap..so the more you send you adverage out the cost of the first kg. hope you find some great stuff to send home....I went a bit mad Hoi an!!!!!

WARNING.......ANOTHER WAY TO GET YOUR MONEY!

I just got word from my buddy who was in Vietnam with me in February.

He bought some gifts at a store and sent it by boat to the US.

The cost of shipping was 200 USD. (The cost of the items was 183USD) The weight was over 24 Kilo.

He just recieved it and found a lead weight at the bottom of the box. A two pound weight!

Speculation is that the store owner lined the bottom of the box with these weights, boosting the cost of shipping. Then removed the weights after we paid the bill and left. Unfortunately.....they forgot one.

Has anyone experienced something like this??

Anyway, a word to the wise!

Dave
