Egypt Tour Recommendations
Posted: Wed May 26, 2004 12:35 PM UTC
Hi

I have finally talked Hubbie into a visit to Egypt at Christmas, and have been looking into tours.

Basically we want to spend 7-10 days, and cover the main attractions (including Abu Simbel) and Nile Cruise (but not on a Felucca).

A friend recommended On the Go Tours. Has anyone used them, or do you have other suggestions ?

Thanks very much!

Sue

Hi Sue:

My husband and I travelled in Egypt for 2 weeks in March with Experience Egypt and we were very pleased. We stayed in the Mena House in Cairo, Oberoi in Aswan, took the Oberoi Philae Nile Cruise, Luxor and then we went on to Sharm. We had some major flight/luggage issues and EE went way above and beyond the call of duty in taking care of those. They delivered everything they promised and more. We had our own guide and driver throughout the trip, so it was very personal. If you like more info on our trip, I'd be glad to share our itinerary, etc. Whoever you go with, I highly recommend going with an Egyptian company. I found in my research that the Egyptian operators are 1/3 - 1/2 cheaper than US or UK operators for the exact same product. Plus, the money stays in the Egyptian economy (and believe me, they need it).
You will absolutely love Egypt. It's the trip of a lifetime and we are already talking about going back! Email me if you'd like more info.

You certainly picked the best time of the year to visit Egypt. The weather in December is sublime. At the moment it is almost too hot to breath here in Luxor.

You are going to be pushed to see everything in 7 - 10 days because of the distances involved so you are going to have to be selective. Abu simbel is easy to see if you can afford to fly down there from Aswan but is a hard journey by bus.
Are you intending to fly into Cairo or Luxor. For what you seem to want, Luxor would be your best bet as that is where most of the temples are and you can get some good deals on flights from Gatwick. Everything (cruises, tours, etc) else is easy to arrange when you get here and as the previous correspondent said, it is cheaper through an Egyptian company and there are a lot of them here. You can always come back to see the things you missed. Egypt gets addictive.

Have a wonderful holiday.

Hello Sue & Everyone

First let me wish a pleasant stay in Egypt & Safe return,

I would recommend some well known Egyptian Tour operators, with branches all over the places you will visit, this helps a lot in getting things right,

For sure 7 days will not be enough to visit much, 10 is fine, 15 would be great, I do suggest that you have itinerary as follows:

1) 2 nights in Cairo (1st stay)
2) 4 nights on Cruise (don't take the 3 nights as they rush things)
3) 2 nights in Alexandria
4) 2 nights in Cairo (2nd stay)

Concerning Abu Simble, I do suggest that you it as follows: (by flight)
Fly Cairo / Abu Simble / Aswan / Cruise / Cairo (assuming the boat starts in Aswan) or Cairo / Luxor / Cruise / Aswan / Abu Simble / Cairo, The visit of Abu Simble takes few hours pre / post the cruise

If you like beach resorts just don’t miss Sharm El Sheikh.

If you need any more details, I’ll be glad to assist you

Yours truly
Eskandarani
