Would it be cheaper to take the train from Darmstadt to Fussen early saturday morning, get to Fussen in the afternoon, check in to a hotel, then do the tourist stuff.. or take one Friday and get there early saturday, check in, do the tourist stuff, and leave sunday. Thanks in Advance

You can diminish your wait considerably by getting there when it opens, either 8:30 or 9:00 (or the last English tour is at 4:00). I suggest visiting Neuschwanstein before the other castle as the waits are far longer at Neuschwanstein than at Hohenschwangau. There are “time tickets” that you purchase in an office at the bottom, so you don’t have to wait in line at the castle.

For the smaller castle, visit: www.ticket-center-hohenschwangau.de
You can even book your tickets before Europe if you want to go inside.

Expect to pay 8 Euro (7 Euro for students) to go into EITHER the Hohenschwangau Castle or the Neuschwanstein castle. Or you can buy a “King’s Ticket” which allows you to see both for 15 Euro (or 13 Euro for students).

FYI - There is only one way to get to Hohenschwangau and that is to walk up a hill (20 minute walk). They have horse carriages available at Neuschwanstein, or 45 minute walk.

i was just there last month and i took a day trip down to there from munich. i left early and drove all the way down to Fuessen, bought the tickets to neuschwanstein and hochenschwangau, and hit both castles. granted it was a weekday, but it was still crowded. i can't imagine the crowds now...

anyway, it is totally possible to do a day trip, but since you're going on a saturday, it'll probably be crowded. i'm also guessing all the hotels there are expensive too.

good luck!

Hi !

Getting tickets for Neuschwanstein will be very hard, when arriving after noon. In April I was there at the ticketoffice at 09.00 a.m. and had a tour at Neuschwanstein at 02.00 p.m. and Hohenschwangau at 11.30 a.m.

Be there as soon as possible in the morning !
