Hi all!
We're going to visit South Africa during July. We plan to stop in Durban and we just wonder if it's possible to go to the beach and get into the water in July. During that period average high temperatures seems to be good (23 °C). Thanks for any help, Mirko. |

July is the middle of winter in Durban and you probably will not find many people on the beaches as it is considered 'cold'! But you can still get bright sunny days and the water will be reasonably warm +/- 15'C. Hope you enjoy.

We found the beach and sea wonderful during July, but most of the local people seemed to think it was cold, but in fact the sea felt warmer than it gets here in UK during high summer.

Thanks a lot for your replies.
We plan to hire a car in Johannesburg and drive through Mpumalanga, Krueger, Swaziland and it will be nice to relax a day in Durban (lying on the beach). Mirko.

sounds good, the water should'nt be too cold considering it will be the middle of winter,it is still warmer than the Cape waters, now why only spend one day in Durban? there is so much to see and do,go see my Durban page.
Have a nice time while there. (~_~)

Hi Pee-Wee and thanks for your answer.
As for Durban we will have only 2 weeks to visit South Africa. It's our first time in Africa and we are more interested in wild life when visiting KwaZulu/Natal. this is our plan: Day 1: arrivining in Jo'burg Int. Airport, we'll stop in Sandton for 1 night 2: visit of Mpumalanga region (Blyde River Canyion) 3-4: visit of Krueger National Park 5: drive through Swaziland 6: visit of KwaZulu/Natal (maybe a private reserve) 7: day to visit Durban 8: afternoon flight from Durban to Port Elizabeth 9: Garden Route until Kyrsna 10: Oudtshoorn 11: Garden route until Cape Town 12-13-14: Visit of Cape Town and surroundings (wine, Table Mountain, ...) Do you have any suggestions?? Thanks, Mirko
