Travelling to Hague
Posted: Wed May 19, 2004 06:49 AM UTC
Good morning dear VTers, and specially Hague members :)

I will be travelling to Holland in June and will stay in Hague three nights, from the 14th to 17th.

I would appreciate very much any information about Hague or maybe a mini VT meeting offer :) Also, if a member in Hague can give me some info about Flick's Residence (in Scheveningen), please contact me.

Yours,
codrutz

According to http://www.hotels.nl/the-hague/2star.htm it's a NO star hotel. Who cares? You are close to the beach and the Scheveningen harbour!

That's what you get if you're away for a holiday... you miss out on posts...

At least no i know why i was added on the friends list ;-)

Don't know anything about flick's but if it would make you feel better i don't mind cycling over there this week and check it out. But as Pieter said, who cares when you're close to the beach and the harbour.

And about that mini-meeting.. i wouldn't have a problem checkign out one of the beach restaurants or one of the harbour ones when the weather is good.. ;-)

Maybe Tijs is around as well. I'll check with him.

Hi Sandra, yes, you were recommended as 'the' member for the Hague :) The problem with Flick's (indeed I don't care it's a no star accomodation), but the actual fear is because they stopped responding about a week ago .. their last message was the reservation is ok, but when I wanted to check again and tell them I want to arrive on 14th at 2pm and leave on 17th at 12 o'clock .. they did not respond .. I've tried later, forwarding the message, then another day from another email .. nothing .. it's silence there...strange..

If you're going cycling over there .. please ask them why they don't respond .. because I've already make arrangements to stay at F1 Amsterdam (Zandaam) for these nights, because they didn't respond..but if you consider Flick's ia a good place to stay for three nights, I can always cancel F1 Zandaam and stay there, close to Schveningen .. I would like it more than in Zandaam :)

Thanks y'all

Will check it out tomorrow for you. It shouldn't be to much of a problem. They might just be too busy. Wil get back to you on this.

Because of the lack of communication with Flick's Apartment, I decided to change my 'base' while in Holland, and that will be in Zaamstad, north of Amsterdam.

Now I reduced the time to visit Hague (very unfortunately) to only a few hours on June 14th (monday) and another few hours on June 16th (wednesday).

My questions are now:

1-where to park my car coming from Amsterdam (A4) so I'll be close to city center and can also visit Scheveningen?

2-what should I do first in The Hague, considering the short time and what should I not miss?

I'm thinking: Plein, Grote Kerk, Mauritshuis, Madurodam, Schveningen

Hi,

Didn't manage to get to Flicks on thursday. Someone stole my bike :-( SO reporting that left me with too little time...

If you have 2 half-days in Den Haag what to visit.... Tough one since there is so much to see.. But don't miss the Binnenhof. They have guided tours avery hour on the hour during the day. The Grote Kerk is not very interesting. If you're interested in churches.. the Nieuwe Kerk is much nicer. Plein is just a square. Not very special. And if you visit the Binnenhof, you'll get there anyway.

Mauritshuis is nice, but i like the Museum Bredius much more. Or try the Escher Museum. Very nice too.

If you want to visit Scheveningen, the Panorama Mesdag is a must see. It is a 360 degree painting of Scheveningen in the late 1800's. A little further then this is the peace palace. And in front of that you can catch the tram to Scheveningen.

And do try to fitt in Madurodam. It will be worth it.

Hi Codrutz, I just read your post today so I might be a bit too late with my offer. Did you already reserve your place in Zandvoort? Otherwise you could change your plans back to The Hague, as it is much more interesting than Zandvoort. You could stay at my home for free, if it's only for a few nights. I have quite often people staing at my home through http://www.hospitalityclub.org/
My house is only one street away from the beach and easy to reach from the city centre or the train station by tram. Greetz and have fun in Holland!

Me again, I just saw your schedule for your trip to Holland. I guess the following changes in your travelplan might be more convenient, you need less time for travelling and get more time for sightseeing:

14/6 From Brugge - passing Delta Expo - to Rotterdam, maybe seeing Delft at night
15/6 Staying in The Hague and surroundings
16/6 From The Hague to Amsterdam
17/6 From Amsterdam to Koeln, making a stop at Six Flags Holland

By the way: I just came back from Romania and also passed by Bucarest and Vama Veche a few weeks ago!! ... Great nightlife over there ;-)

Hi .. sorry for being so late with my reply .. I'm frantic doing the preparations .. tough job with maps and planning everything .. In all it takes more to plan than to actually visit :)

Thanks to all who responded to my posting .. Tijs, thanks for the great offer :) I like free accomodation .. but I have to check with my wife, we already changed plans over and over .. and all because of that Flick guy .. someboday should give him a bad rating :)

Sandra, we'll be in The Hague on Monday 14th, coming from Brugge .. and going as late as possible to Zandaam. Then, the 15th is already booked for the great Amsterdam, and we'll return on 16th to see more of The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam.

How can we meet for a walk-trough mini VT meeting? :)

PS: I'm leaving tomorrow at 4am

Mini VT-meetings can be arranged at any time. Tijs are you around on the 14th.. ? Or too exhausted after Oerol? Dinner on the beach with good weather and somewhere in the city with less good weather?

OK It's a deal. The weather forecast says it will be 19 celcius and sun with clouds so I think it's perfect weather for the beach. Let's meet at my place between 17:30 and 18:00 hours and then walk along the boulevard towards Mecca. They have good salads and soups, so perfect for a light meal. How about that?

RE: RE: Travelling to Hague-Flick's Residence
Posted: Mon March 12, 2007 01:14 AM UTC
I know this is WAY late, but maybe it will be helpful to someone else in the future. I reserved a room at Flick's last weekend (3-4 March, 2007), and just want to report back here that it was really a nice place to stay. I read a review somewhere (can't find it now) that said it spared the luxury for economy. This is true, but I must say this was the best deal on my entire trip. 25 Euro/night, breakfast included, and Mr. Flick was very hospitable -helped find the right tram and train to Amsterdam, and even gave me a ride to the train station on the morning I left (rather than trying to catch a tram at 06:00). The room is clean, and basic (no TV, no phone - but very comfortable). It's a bit of a walk to the beach, but the #1 tram comes close, and takes you right to the beach area. I would recommend this place to anyone on a budget that needs a clean, comfortable room.

Maybe you can make it a tip on your The Hague page? That way it'll be easier for people to find it. Thanks
