Wondering if one can arrive to Juliaca Sunday 1PM, get to Puno check it out and take the 8AM train from Puno to Cuzco with out too much hassle?

Juliaca to Puno is one hour.

And I am sure the train stops there on the way so you won't even need to go to Puno. But how you get a ticket I do not know.

Did you take the train all the way to Cuzco, that is really what I am interested in since it is one of the highest train rides in the world. Did you stay in Puno or Juliaca? La Gitana

Went from Puno to Cuzco and stayed in Puno the night before. We bought tickets from Arequipa so did not stuff around trying to buy them on the day. But it was the low season.

1) What type of tickets did you buy (first class or backpackers)
2) Where in Arequipa did you buy those tickets
and in case you bought first class tickets: do you know 3) whether it is also possible to buy backpacker tickets in advance in Arequipa

1) Got the cheapest ones, backpacker in think it is called no need as far as I could see for going up a class, just fancier tables to sit at.

P.S. take you own food aboard the food is 3 times the price of the ticket.

2)Can't remember what the place was called (it was on the plaza, to the left if you look at EEl Misti) but I bought a package to do the INCA trek and they could organise what ever you want so got them to get bus, train and all hotels for Puno and Cuzco. It was a good price, got ripped off on the INCA trek ($30 extra) a couple of $ on each hotel and a little bit on the bus to puno. All in all it cost about $40 extra than if I had bought tickets along the way myself, but that was worth it because everything was done for me and did not have to wait in Cuzco waiting for a place on the trail.
