It is United, they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this morning which is reorganization not liquidation. United for the time being is saying that it is business as usual. The best place for your friend to check would be with United but today is probably not a good day to be doing that.

Yes, American and United are two different airlines (the fact that they have different names is one clue!) United has just filed for bankruptcy protection this morning, but as of now all flights are still going. It is unlikely that your friends will be negatively affected by this--it is possible that United may shift them onto another airline if the flight itself is cancelled, but the tickets should be honored. (Of course, if that happens, the flight times or routing might change to something less convenient.) Definitely check with the airline 1-2 weeks before the flight to get the latest update. As someone said above, today would NOT be the best day to call the airline.

So are your tickets in fact on American or United? Because if it's American, yippee! More leg room! :)
Cheers.

The head of United came out saying that service will get even better now that they've filed for bankruptcy. That's very reassuring to me who has a lot of frequent flier miles on United. It's a huge airline, and I don't think service will be affected anytime soon if at all. We can hope.

I, too, am keeping my fingers crossed. UAL (United's parent company) is based out of Chicago and they reassured the flying public that they will keep flying. From what I've read so far, Mileage Plus which is their frequent flyer program was one of the items they wanted to keep intact when they filed for bankruptcy.
I've racked up a lot of frequent flyer miles on their program and would hate to see them vanish into thin air.

I think you better ask Bush to stop
wasting money on war at Iraq and save his own country airline company if he still wants to continue one more term .He wasted Billions of dolar that Clinton have left behind and if he still wants to be called a 'Hero' he have to cover a lot of S****T.

Lioneric, this is not a political forum, please keep to topic. :) That aside, the United States doesn't have a national airline like many companies. Here, the airlines win or lose based on their own merits, planning and service. :)
And from what I've been hearing, United will keep flying for the indefinate future, honoring all of their tickets.

Lioneric,
Take your thoughts to the Misc. Forum. I'll be happy to tell you more about what Bush is doing and why.

Since United is filing Ch. 11 instead of Ch.13, most flights will probably not be disrupted. And even if this occurs, there's a federal regulation that requires other airlines to accept the tickets of the "bankrupt" airlines for a nominal fee depending on the airlines (the fee required should not amount to more than US$75).
