I'm going to Mexico City next month and I'd like to visit Puebla for a) the highest pyramid b) the POPO volcanco. Just a few questions

a) how far is it from Mexico City
b) best mode of transporation (I'm guessing bus)
c) how much will it cost approx
d) how long do I need to stay in Puebla to see the pyramids, volcano and anything else that is worth seeing
e) safe and cheap place to stay overnight
f) is there anything else I can see in Puebla or near by town

If you know of any other info that would help, that woudl be great. I was thinking of going on the 28th - 29th
Thanks

PUEBLA IS ABOUT 2 HOURS FROM MEXICO CITY, TAKE ADO OR ESTRELLA ROJA FROM AIRPORT, THEY HAVE A SPECIAL DIRECT BUS FROM THE AIR TERMINAL TO PUEBLA, COSTS ABOUT 12 DOLLARS, APPROXIMATELY 120 PESOS. EXCHANGE DOLLARS AT ANY OF SEVERAL BANKS INSIDE AIRPORT. THE DIRECT BUS WILL TAKE YOU TO A TERMINAL AT 4 PONIENTE IN PUEBLA. CATCH A CAB TO IMPERIAL HOTEL ABOUT 9 BLOCKS AWAY ON SAME STREET, COST ABOUT $28 DOLLARS A NIGHT, IT,S SAFE, CLEAN AND RIGHT DOWNTOWN. THERE'S TONS OF THINGS TO SEE, I SUGGEST THE AMPARO MUSEUM, THE CINCO DE MAYO BATTLESITE AT FT. LORETO, NEARBY IN TLAXCALA, ONE HOUR AWAY IS THE PYRAMIDS OF CACAXTLA, CHECK IT OUT ON A WEBSITE. THE VOLCANO HAVE A RESTRICTED ZONE OF 15 KILOMETERS.
TLAXCALA HAS SOME EXCELLENT CHEAP TOURS ON WEEKENDS. ALSO PUEBLA HAS A HUGE CRAFT MARKET. IF YOU WANT MORE INFO WRITE ME, I'VE LIVED HERE 35 YEARS. ADIOS, BOB

The direct bus from in front of the national section of the airport is a great convenience. Unless they have changed recently, alternate buses leave you at small 4 poniente station or the large Central station (Capu) in Puebla. The taxi cost is about the same to the Hotel Imperial. The large station just requires walking to the taxi area and there are more people around, but this is not really a problem. (Regulated Taxis are on your right when you reach the main area ticket lobby.) If you are staying in Mexico City than you can use the TAPO bus station for an express bus to Puebla rather than going back out to the airport. (This station is probably only about 5 minutes by taxi from the airport. It has a bus at least every 15 minutes.)
What to see depends on your interests, but the Amparo Museum is one of the best in Mexico. You should also see the Palafox library (in the cultural center), the cathedral, Rosario chapel in the iglesia Santa Domingo and the secret convent of Santa Monica where nuns hid years after they were outlawed. There are other things as well but just let me suggest the Museo de Arte Bello y Gonzalez on Calle 3 Norte with a fascinating private collection for a little guided tour. It is not expensive. Oh, yes do not miss the best part of Puebla -- the food. Bob 2 .

a) It's 100 kilometres east of D.F.
b)Yes, the bus takes you to Puebla bus terminal in 2 hours. Get a pre-paid cab to whereever you go from there. It's painless. (Take at least 1st class buses, they are nice and trouble free.)

c)I think around $40 US

d) Depends, there are great archetectural tours available. Puebla is the most colonial city in Mexico with the entire center comprised of 16th to 19th century buildings and cathedrals that rate with those in Rome. AMAZING restaurants(Puebla is renowned for its food: Mole Poblano, Nopales, Cemitas and Camotes to name a few. Try some Mole enchiladas at Bar Royalty in el zocalo downtown You will never forget this!) Naturally, it has great nightlife if you are so inclined. It is a college city with lots of international students and young energy as well.

Nearby Cholula is a charming 2,000 nyear old suburb. It has great tile art and shops and bars as well. (My father was born in Puebla and grew up in Cholula and I visit often as I can. Tonanzintla has a shockingly beautiful church with 1000's of indigeouness images.
