Asilah If you are going to Asilah soon

can you please visit Marhaba restaurant and ask to be shown Rachida's house (she is the owner's sister) and say hello to her from me (Maria). If you are also stuck for accommodation, she has a couple of basic rooms she lets out in the height of the season and she might be able to help you out.

Issam

Rachida does not have a hotel, just a house. She is my ex husband's eldest sister and my beloved 'ahti' at heart! I sit here in London and remember the times we spent in the hamam together or doing henna in her sitting room. Rachida is a lady of great heart and has five well brought up children. I want to go visit her one day and see if she remembers the song I taught her 'Poso m'aresoun ee karamelitses' :)

*sigh* Oh how I would love to be in Asilah right now, sitting at the restaurant on terrace in front of the medina, sipping my 'berda bzef' coca cola and watching the world go by!

Where is the man selling kakaovit (peanuts) and the strolling musician... where are the salesmen trying to flog their collections from table to table... where is the sound of the games machine in the cafe next door mixed with the sound of music from the street vendor of cassettes?

And where is Ishmael, the boy who walks with a limp but carries himself with great dignity and self respect?

I wish I could see all my old friends there and say hello to them! Insallah, one day soon...
