Few Ibiza questions...
Posted: Wed May 12, 2004 07:59 AM UTC
OK I have decided to "do" Ibiza before I am "too old". This presents a problem in that I am going to somehow have to disguise this trip to look a little more cultural than it really is - a weeks package tour aint going to wash with the girlfriend left back home. Ideally I am thinking 2 or 3 nights would just about do me (i.e. survive). I am just wondering the pro's and con's of mixing this with a trip to the Spanish mainland and then getting the ferry across. Arrival city in Spain would be with or near a budget airline destination.

As I understand it my options by ferry are from Barcelona (have been before but do love the place), Valencia (never been and would like to go) or Denia (Alicante). Also do the ferries actually go from Valencia or do they somehow get you to Denia?

Firstly I am thinking of doing this trip the first week in September. Will Ibiza still be pretty lively at this time?
Which part of the island should I stay at to be fairly central for nightlife and/or sightseeing? Also with accomodation that you can take for just a couple of days.
Any particular reasons for choosing one ferry/departure point?
Is there an advantage to getting the ferry on a certain night of the week - i.e. if you get the overnight on say a Friday is it more lively?

And basically and other info on doing Ibiza independantly..

Cheers!

Hi,

There is a ferry from Denia which is about 1.5 hrs on a bus as I understand it from Alicante. Total travel time is 3.5 to 4 hrs including the bus to Denia from Alicante and ferry from Alicante to Ibiza town or San Antonio. Google 'Ibiza Spotlight' for ferry times, the cost is €38 oneway and there are 2-3 ferries per day each way. U can see cheap hotels on Ibiza Spotlight also.

Gud luck!

Firstly I dont think you can become too old for Ibiza, its a great destination at any age, toddler to seventy five year old. Although if you are reaching your seventies I would slow down on the nightlife a little ;0)

Another thing, I´m sure Ibiza has plenty to offer for a weeks stay (girlfriend permitting), I´ve spent over the years, 22 weeks on the Island and never become bored, most of those weeks in one or two week trips.

I cant speak about Barcelona, but both Valencia and Alicante have plenty to offer, but of the two I really love Valencia. Valencia has great nightlife (very Spanish oriented) and a mass of historic and cultural activities to help convice you GF. Alicante has this too, and nearby Benidorm would offer you a cheap place to stay and lots of British style nightlife.

On Ibiza I would suggest two locations to stay, Ibiza town (including Playa d´en Bossa) or San Antonio (including the bay area). Nighlife in Ibiza town is a little more sophisticated, San Antonio a little more downmarket, but still a lot of fun. There are a few other resorts but they are more suited to families or couples (Santa Eulalia, Portinatx and San Miquel).

Ibiza town has nightclubs Pacha and El Devino, San Antonio has Es Paradis and Eden. The other two superclubs are Amnesia and Privalege, both located out in the countryside midway between the two towns.

Early September is a great time to go, in fact June and September are my prefered months.

Hope this helps, ask if you need any other assistance.
