Laos flights from Vientiane to siem reap or phenom penh

Would like to fly from Vientiane to siem reap (ideally) or phenom penh. I've heard mixed reviews about Laos airlines. How risky is this carrier? Are there other airlines that fly this route, or if it's not a good idea should I plan on Thai airlines to Bangkok and then bus to siem reap.

Hi,

I used Lao Airlines when I flew Vientiane - Luang Prabang - Vientiane route and it was just an ordinary and safe flight. Still operations at Vientiane Airport were somewhat slow and old-fashioned. Luckily, my guide fixed everything for me.

You have a few alternative routings:

Thai Airways Vientiane - Bangkok
Lao Airlines Vientiane-Bangkok

Bangkok Airways Bangkok - Siem Reap

Vietnam Airlines Vientiane - Phnom Penh
Lao Airlines Vientiane - Phnom Penh

Presidet Airline Phnom Penh - Siem Reap
Siem Reap Airways Phnom Penh - Siem Reap

Hi,

I joined a tour gp to Angkor Wat last year.
First, we took Thai air from Singapore to Bangkok. Then we travel by coach from Bangkok to the Bangkok/Cambodia Border. After a 1 night stay at the border, we took the coach from the border to Siem Reap. The journey is quite tedious coz the road is very bumpy and lasts about 8hrs or more. Should say it took nearly a whole day by coach. Not much scenary along the way except many padi fields. Still, it's a much more cheaper way than to go to Siem Reap directly by air. It's yr choice.

I had a good experience with Lao Airlines so personally I would go with them because there are direct flights from Vientiane to Siem Reap (see www.laoairlines.com). Also, it will be the cheapest.

Statistically speaking I would give you around 50-50. The possibility of dying most horribly is, indeed, very real.

I'm flying to Hanoi this week with them, and I survived the speedboat to Laos which everyone told me was horrifying (it wasn't).

Travellers take great delight in scaring each other. Don't be nervous. If something goes wrong it will all be over very quickly. You'll hit the ground like a dart and, if theimpact didn't kill you, the ensuing inferno defintely will in a matter of seconds.

I flew Chiang Mai to Louang Prabang on Friday with Laos Airlines. They were absolutley fine. The aeroplane looked fairly new, and they even gave me an onboard meal. They were also about 20 dollars cheaper than flying with Thai.

i flew with them twice while there, including the same flight youre debating. my advice: if you don't mind dropping the buck fifty than go for it. i'm not into statistics, but in my mind, driving in asia is just as crazy as flying. they each have their own risks. flying just gets you to your destination faster. also, i thought the flight to siem reap was great. comfortable, fast and convenient.
