1. You call or mail the bigger companies, like Hertz, Avis for ex., asking if they have the specific model you want. If it's something very special, try the airport offices, they tend to have a larger selection.
2. You fill out all the forms.
3.You pay.
4. You get into the car.
5.You drive.
Have fun, but remember: Even when there is no general speed limit on the Autobahn, there are many sections which do have a speed limit.

Of course you can rent, the following companies are offering BMW, Audi or Mercedes if you are old enough and have all the necessary papers and credits.

www.hertz.de, www.budget.de, www.avis.de, www.europcar.de and my favourite, which is www.sixti.de, well, they do not have BMV or MB, but they do have SMART, which is made by Benz.

And by the way, the freeways in Germany called Autobahn, but what I never understood, is why Americans think it is something special to drive there? Well, true that on some roads there is no speed limit, but there are commonly traffic delays and you will have to slow down anyway. In all, it is still just a driving a road and not a speed racing, there are rules and over speeding might risk yourself and other drivers. If you want to speed up, why not going to Indianapolis?

These things I tried to tell my boyfriend who just got a new BMW and thinks that the Autobagn (however you spell it) is some fasinating roadway where he can hit 120+ miles per hour and not get killed. He thinks its some neat trick to rent a BMW. I swear that car is going to his head. I don't even want to go to Germany but I figured since we were in Europe I can get him to Paris, London and maybe Rome. No more silly questions. Thanks alot guys.

I was on one of those autobahns last year driving from Switzerland to Duesseldorf. We drove at 140 km/hr even reaching 160 for a while. There were still people passing us as if we were on a leisurely Sunday drive.

I am amazed that more people do not get killed on German autobahns. (We passed a crash going the other way on that autobahn. - Eleven km of cars were lined up behind the crash. I'm quite glad we didn't join that traffic jam).

Hello:
As noted by the previous posters, if there's a traffic jam, there's a traffic jam -- no different than anywhere else in the world. Also pls note that 140 km per hour is a far cry from 140 MPH . Why don't you let him do the driving while you spend some down-time relaxing and enjoying the great sights that Munich has to offer?

i dont want to sound like your mother, but please be careful! when driving car in public you are assuming a big chunk of responsibility!
not just for yourself, but you could kill alot of bystanders, too. (even at low speeds, mind you)
and, like everything else, flooring the gas in puclic traffic takes practise and routine. if you dont have that yet, then dont push your luck. (and that of others)

Happy -and safe- travelling!
