syria - accommodation
Posted: Thu December 5, 2002 08:30 AM UTC
so finally i have booked my flights for syria.. 10 days, over new years.

i guess it's time to book at least the first night in damascus.. since i'm landing in the middle of the night. can anyone recommend a cheap/clean/safe hotel pls? nothing with too many stars and also locally owned. if it's nice-ish, i'm even happier :-)

i also accept recommendations about aleppo, hama (cairo hotel maybe?), palmyra and maybe latakia - since i don't really have a route... or anywhere els u'd think it's worth going.

thx

rhia

in 1997, the Al Haramain Hotel in downtown Damascus was an excellent place. It has cheapest dorm rooms and cheap single rooms, great location, nice vibe...

AND don't miss this - In Bosra, a small town near the Jordan border, you can stay in a room on top a black basalt roman amplitheater for $3ish per night.

really, you don't need an address...

put the name of that hotel, Damascus, Syria

I applied for a Syrian visa as an American with a Norwegian passport at the Prague embassy. On the hotel address form, I wrote, "Hotel in Damascus"...

best of luck, you don't need it

Hi!

the adress of the El Haramein Hotel:
"Damascus Bahsa st. Sarouja tel: 231 94 89 fax: 231 42 99"
See the map: http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/21ee9/1bb154/3/#T

Yes, no stars in this hotel.... it's a backpacker hotel... if Hussam is still at the reception, just say Salaam and happy Ramadan from Nadia, France.

Anyway if you don't like the place they will recommend you other hotels at the reception. Just next to the El Haramein there's the hotel El Rabie, just in case.

Have a nice trip... and yeah... don't tell anything to your jordanian friend... the stars are in the sky ;)

about Palmyra go to NEW AFQA hotel you can take a room of 300 syrian pounds, don't let him charge you too much only 300SP.
the owner called ABOU MAHER,
Tell him that my friend from Dmascus sends me to you.

in lattakia I think lattakia hotel is very good and cost about 250.

in damascus go to Haramen Hotel and you can chare people in the same room and cost about 175SP.

Send my regards to Abou Maher in Palmyra and good luck.

Rami
