| Reno | Reno/Tahoe or Las Vegas Posted: Sun April 25, 2004 05:43 PM UTC
We live in Illinois. My husband and I have been to LV, once a year every August, for too many times to count and we still love to go. However, we have NEVER yet been to Reno or Lake Tahoe. Are we missing out? If we could afford to do Las Vegas and Reno/Lake Tahoe in the same year, I'd gladly go. But since we can only do one, I'm not sure about giving up my beloved Las Vegas trip. I'm leaving it to the experts. What are we missing?

Hello:
There's an excellent article called a "Taste of Tahoe" that you should take a look at. http://www.laketahoelodging.com/article_taste.asp It lists restuarants and other places to visit as well as the site's other Lake Tahoe Information including Vacation Rentals (where you can stay in deluxe home accommodations at the same cost or less than many hotels). If you're travelling with family this is a great idea. Rich

I like Reno. But I Vegas has everything that Reno has, so worth seeing but probably will not add anything. Casinos are not as clustered (except the old area which I do not like as much) and do not have all the themes and such. Tahoe is real nice, and a different climate, but kind of expensive while being in the woods around a lake in mountains. So, that at least is different.
Since you love Vegas so much, you probably would like these 2 but not nearly as much.

Reno/Tahoe and Las Vegas are two very different experiences. If you are out for the glitz and glamor of casinos I haven't seen anyplace that can out do or out fantasy Las Vegas. But if you enjoy the outdoors Reno/Tahoe is a wonderful place to visit.
Within an hours drive from Reno you can visit Lake Tahoe an alpine lake in the high Sierras or head the other direction to visit Pyramid Lake a popular alkaline lake in the high desert. Most of our out of town guests enjoy Virginia City the remants of the 1850's silver rush boom town and Truckee, CA an old railroad town from the same era. If you enjoy traveling in August and are a car buff you should try visiting during "Hot August Nights". This is a vintage car event that brings thousands of restored, hot rod and some not so restored cars into Reno. If you are interested their website is /www.hotaugustnights.net,
