I'm planning on going to Maine in July. We'll be taking about 9-10 days to go from NJ, stopping in Boston for a night and then up to Acadia. We also wanted to visit the Hopewell Rocks and Fundy Park in New Brunswick, Canada. Has anyone ever done this trip? It is 8 hours away from Acadia making it about 19 hours away from my home. Do you think this is doable or will I be overextending myself? Thanks for your help!
All the states in New England are really small, so it should take less than three hours from Acadia National Park to get to the Canadian border at New Brunswick.
Mapquest says it will take about 3 hours to get to the border, than approximately another 5 to get to the Hopewell Rocks. I have been told it should only take about three from a Vt'r who lives in the area.
I am a current Maine resident, and have travelled from Newark, NJ all the way up through to NB, though not consecutively.
I would guess it depends on how flexable you are when travelling. It does not seem to be an overextension, though I would highly suggest remaining open with your itinerary. Acadia is one of the most lovely places I've ever been to, and you may decide that you want to extend your stay.
Also, look for alternative means of travel... perhaps a car ferry into Canada would work? An interesting and fun change of pace, to be sure.
Feel free to contact me for advice. I know Acadia well, and can help keep you in the sweet spots and away from the bloated tourists.
We are planning a similar trip abpit the same time and would like to know if you received information on the "sweet" not tourist infested spots in Acadia? Would you share them with us?
