Definitely take the ferry over to Rottnest Island, about 30 mins away. You can hire a bike and cycle around it in a couple of hours. It has beautiful coves and beaches and lots of quokas (little furry marsupials) which are pretty tame.
Fremantle is also well-known for it's cafes and restaurants. Where are you from?

Well, me for one, though it was 1970 and I was 8 yrs old with my family. In those days Australia was encouraging British immigrants and they subsidised the airfares such that my parents paid 10 pounds each and my sister and I came free, all on Qantas.
Things have changed a lot since then and it's much tougher, particularly if you are over 26. This is the website for our Dept of Immigration - http://www.dimia.gov.au/ Good luck!

Ok, I'll keep my eye out for her but the curvature of the earth obstucts my view. I am over 4000km away on the coast north of Sydney.

The Round House, Esplanade, Fremantle Markets, Fremantle Prison and the Fremantle Maritime Museum are the most notable tourist attractions. Id advise not to go to the markets on the weekend, they are literally jam packed, often you cannot move.
A great city. Many welding jobs in the area south of Fremantle about 15 mins away. Will have no problem getting a job if your a welder/boiler maker. They are very much in demand in this area.
