Essen Essen and Gelsenkirchen
Posted: Sat April 17, 2004 05:04 PM UTC
Hello

I am coming to Essen, but I booked a hotel in Gelsenkirchen (Ibis Gelsenkirchen). Does anyone know if this hotel is far from Essen's bus or railway station? How could I reach this hotel from railway/bus station?
Or maybe should I come to Dusseldorf and it would be closer to Ibis Gelsenkirchen?
I would be very thankful for the answers.

Essen is a very large city and you probably want to stay there instead of Gelsenkirchen. It will take you probably 30 minutes by train to get to G-Kirchen. Depending upon your reason for being there, Duessedorf certainly has more to offer in the evenings and is likewise 30 minutes from Essen.

I am coming for FIBO exhibition in Essen. The reason why I need to get to G-Kirchen is that my boss reserved Ibis Gelsenkirchen hotel there. So, I just need to know how to get from Essen's bus station to Gelsenkirchen's train station (the hotel is there nearby).
So, if you know, could you please, say how to reach it. By train from Essen's railway station?
thx

Hiya Laura,

check this page for timetables and fares of the local trains between Essen and Gelsenkirchen:

http://www.vrr.de/

It seems to have an English section. Just click on the British flag.

I hope this helps

I am visiting this area frequently and there is no problems to get from one place to another by local trains, there are few every hour, check S-Bahn or RE trains which are cheaper on the site the HORSCHECK gave you.
And then, remember to try good local beers and food. Don't go to Burger King :-)))
