Maybe try the Pfaueninsel - quite a romantic place, and Island with semi-wild Peacocks and a ruined chalet...

If she is a history buff you could consider "Checkpoint Charlie" or the Brandenburg Gates ... there is also the TV tower which is the tallest point in the city with a remarkable view of the surrounding area ... it is a bit touristy however - you might want to scout it first ...

I have never been to Berlin but I would have to suggest that there would be no better place in Berlin than the historic location where the Berlin Wall came down. Remember this is a historic symbol that epitomised the huge 'hurdle' that separated people and it came down "UNITING" people. Since marriage is an "union", you might want to think of Berlin Wall (checkpoint Charlie if I remember correctly) as the place to be epitomizing any hurdles you may have to go thru to, to seek the union of your beloved one with you. Just a thought !!!

Hi!
The area around Checkpoint Charly is absolutely NOT romantic. Pfaueninsel is a nice idea. I recommend the places around Landwehrkanal in Kreuzberg, it`s like a beautiful river in the heart of the city, with trees and parks and nice restaurants...

Hi,

Congratulations (in advance)! The dome of the reichstag would be a suggestion, but then you either hace to go very early or very late. Otherwise there will be lots of tourist. On top of the reichstag you can walk around, so you can find a little bit of privacy.

BTW: if someone asked me to marry him at Checkpoint Charlie I would say no ;-) Please check out my tourist trap section.

Good luck and please let me know where you proposed her and what was the answer ;-))

x Emke

I agree with the previous post: Checkpoint Charlie is anything but romantic (unless you are the sort to get mushy about soldiers in jackboots).

The canalside setting is charming - the grounds around Charlottenburg Palace are nice, too. Maybe out on the water somewhere, if you feel like renting a rowboat.

Best of luck to you both!
K.

If you want to splash out try Kempinski's on the Ku'damm.
Or, for a breathtaking view of the city go to the top of the Europa Centre.

Right in front of the Brandenburg gate would be my choice. You could do it right before or after a great dinner from a variety of 4 star restaurants in the area.

The Gendarmen Markt is probably the most picturesque square in Berlin, as an alternative.
