Life in Hungary

I'm moving to Budapest for a short while with my husband for business. We'll be there for most of next year. (He's Hungarian.) I have no idea what to expect. Can anybody tell me what the people are like? What life is like over there? Thank you.

Hungary is great fun. The language is very difficult, but with a year to learn, you should be fine, (haha). Hungary has excellent public transportation, so getting around is very easy. One tip on Budapest: Never cross a busy street. There are underground passages on the main streets. Good Luck.

Hi and Shalom from Israel:
We were in Hungary for a short time and very much enjoyed our stay. We visited many places at the suggestion of our Hungarian friends who live there still. If you like people you will like Hungary, we found people everywhere to be friendly and helpful, going out of their way to help even. We also made some very good friends there and hope you do also. If you would like we could contact them for you and ask if they can help you personally.
The only problem you may find will be with the language, many people do not speak English, but are willing to try with the few words they know, we found it very difficult to learn a few words of Hungarian, but it is worth it to try as a beginning.

Thank you all. I do know a little about Hungarians (and the language) from my husband (and some of his family), but he's quite a character, so I'm not basing the entire country on him :)
It's my first time living outside the U.S., so I'm curious about all the major differences... things I'll like, things that may be difficult to adjust to, shopping, food, leisure activities, etc. I'm excited and terribly nervous.
