| Canberra | How cold in April. Posted: Sat April 3, 2004 02:24 PM UTC
I am coming from Perth which can get very cold at night down to 0c in the winter and was wondering at that time of the year is Canberra colder then 0c and what sort of clothing would you recommend for the city. Will be there for 5 days from the 21st of April.

Thanks heaps for the information
So it is not as laid back as Perth I assume? I think Im going to have A marvellous time, going to the nations capital seems so Aussie to me. I think all Australians need to visit Canberra once in their life.

You're coming at the right time of year - the autumn leaves are at their best in the second half of April. Expect daytime temperatures to reach 15 to 20 degrees, nights down to about 5, though there is the slight possibility of an early frost. If the high pressure systems sit over the top, as they seem to be this year, the weather should be great, but from early May (and occasionally earlier) the cold westerlies can kick in. So although it depends how much you feel the cold, I'd suggest normal casual gear, a light jumper for most evenings, and maybe something warmer "just in case". You shouldn't need heavy duty cold weather clothing.
