| Dumaguete City | accomodations and sites Posted: Fri April 2, 2004 10:26 PM UTC
i'm planning to be in dumaguete for about two weeks in mid april. where should i stay? i've been there before but only for one day en route to siquijor. i found dumaguete charming and would like to visit for a longer time. is there any surfing somewhere close to town? good restaurants? hotels? any helpful info would be much appreciated?

I don't think there's a good surfing place in Dumaguete even though there's a lot of really fantastic dive sites (i.e. Apo Island). As for restaurants, it depends on what kind of food you like. There's Mei-an for Chinese (though it's kinda out of the way), Don Atilano (steak). Additionally, there is this little pastry shop, called Sans Rival, near the boulevard and right across a Chinese restaurant named Chin Long, which has the best desserts that I had ever tasted. Additionally, the bbq in Gimmick is really good, and you'll meet a lot of the city's kolehiyalas/los (did i say that right?).
I haven't stayed in any hotels in Dgte. since my parents own a house over there. However, you might want to try Sta. Monica's quaint oceanside cottages, which is quite near the city, but is outside the downtown area. Otherwise, you might want to try Bethel, which is walking distance from downtown and I believe one of the newer hotels in the city. I would not worry too much regarding an accomodation's location since the city's quite small, and it's relatively easy to get around. Have fun in Dgte. and email me if you have any additional questions.
