Hello You can check Aerolineas web page at: http://www.aerolineas.com.ar/ The problem is, you can find a flight there but the price quoted is only for people resides in Argentina. As we found out, it's cheaper to book a flight via an agent in Aargentina, rather to make your own reservation. If you want the email of the agent we worked with (we paid him in advance olthough we new him only over the net), I'll be glad to give you. He was very reliable, and very nice man

Re: Re: Travel & Accommodation, Buenos Aires to Ushaia Posted: Sat April 3, 2004 06:30 PM UTC
In terms of birds and wildlife:
In Buenos Aires, you will want to visit the "Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur," which is an enormous nature reserve right next to downtown, and a great place for birds. That time of year, you can expect to see 80+ species in a single morning.
In Ushuaia, visit the Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, the Martial Glacier, and take a cruise on the Beagle Channel (which you can arrange at the city pier) to see sea lions, elephant seals, penguins, cormorants, albatrosses and other pelagic birds. The town dump is one of the most reliable sites in South America for Striated Caracara. Fore more detailed info on finding birds in this area, I recommend Nigel Wheatley's "Where to Watch Birds in South America."
Cheers!
Rob

Brilliant! Your info just adds to the stream of saliva seeping embarrassingly from the corners of my mouth. I presume from your response that the public park in BA is accessible enough? Any idea of trip prices into the Beagle Channel from Ushuaia? Many thanks once again. Gary

Re: Re: Travel & Accommodation, Buenos Aires to Ushaia Posted: Fri April 9, 2004 03:48 AM UTC
Costanera Sur, the reserve in downtown BA, is a 10-minute walk (or 3-minute taxi ride, which is probably a better idea) from the city center, on the Rio de la Plata. It is open every day except Monday, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The north entrance is near the Buquebus ferry terminal where the boats leave for Uruguay. The main entrance and visitors center are at the south end.
I don't recall the exact price of the Beagle Channel cruises, but the price for a several hour cruise is very reasonable, and includes a visit to a Penguin rookery. There are a number of tour operators who have kiosks right at the pier, so it's best to just compare prices and itineraries once you get there.
