Iasi Travel to Iasi from Bucharest
Posted: Wed March 31, 2004 03:31 AM UTC
Hello,

I plan to visit colleagues in Iasi, but I'm trying to understand the best way to travel there from Bucharest, which is where my flight will land. I have been told that the intercity trains are good but take up to 7 hours, but someone else mentioned that a taxi can be booked and only takes 6 hours. I also understand there are a few flights to Iasi from Bucharest, but that they take off from a different airport?

I would appreciate advice or comment from anyone who can help!

Thank you

You have flights to Iasi from Intl Airport Otopeni, no need to exit the Airport. Check the timetable on www.tarom.ro (You'll have to type "bucuresti" instead of "bucharest"). Don't know how much it costs one ticket, try to find out by yourself.
If it's too expensive, try to choose a train, from www.cfr.ro you'll find a timetable (always type "bucuresti", than choose "Bucuresti Nord Gr A"), it will take 5 hours to get to Iasi with the IC and it's very confortable. A taxi from the Airport to Bucuresti N station should cost about 15-20 euros. Enjoy your stay!

I live in Iasi.

about the road: The cheapest way is often by train, but not always. They were talking about maxi-taxi (private busses actually) and they are better than trains (in means of confort and safety).

about iasi: I am a student and the local faculty of science (1st year). If you plan to visit colleagues in Iasi tell me when you come and if you want and is possible then i will give you a tour of iasi.

Also i suggest to have some currency and not pay in euros (or any other currency) espeacilly cabs (some may ask you for more money or take longer routes). Also don't show your money when u travel by train or in public places, you might attract unwanted attention. i don't want to scare you, but just try to be carefull.

if you need more info message me and i'll give you my mail to talk.

Hi,I live in Romania,a small town nearly to Iasi,I advice you to take the Inter-city train from "Gara de Nord" railway station, this is the best chose to arrive in Iasi. Also, this is more cheap method to travel in Romania.....I don't indicate you to travel with a taxi or a rent car because are more expensive. Please inform me if you have other questions, I will ask you with pleasure/costica ( costica_is@yahoo.com )
