| Fort Worth | For Ft. Worth Natives Only, What Kind of neighborhood is Motel 6 in? Posted: Thu March 25, 2004 07:53 PM UTC
This Motel 6 is located at 1-35W at Alta Mesa Blvd., Exit #44, 6600 So. Freeway.
I'm on a strict budget and don't want to spend a lot on a motel room, it's approx. 7 mi. from downtown Ft. Worth and 29 mi. from DFW airport. I'll be renting a car and will also be visiting Dallas for a day. I need to know if it's a safe middle class neighborhood or it's in a ghetto or barrio? I don't want to be mugged coming home late at night. or see a lot of homeless people running around. Please advise. |

That's a relatively safe location. You won't get mugged, but if you are not from around here... it might seem a bit unsavory. I think there are some liquor stores close by... and the population is a mix of Hispanics and Caucasians (slightly further south of I-35 gets you into the fringe area of rural and urban expansion where more "country" white folks live).
You are very close to downtown... but you might be able to find a better location for a little more money. Have you looked into anything on University Drive? I think there's a Ramada right off I-30. You are seconds from downtown, the zoo, numerous parks, TCU, shopping, restaurants, etc. Motel 6 isn't bad (a nicer Holiday Inn is right across the highway). For your brief stay, you'd be fine here... but look into that Ramada, if possible. You can do a lot within walking distance.

Thanks for the advice...but it's a little late, I went to TX in April and wound up staying at a very nice Super 8 in Irving. Had no problems whatsoever!
